Don't Put THAT on the Moving Truck

getting ready to moveBy Julie DeLong, A-1 Freeman Moving Group

There are a million reasons why you will want to work with professional movers in Houston. You could be moving because of a job or to be near family or downsizing after retirement. Whatever your reason, you are likely to have lots of stuff that will require to be packed up and relocated to your new location. However did you know that there are some items your moving company in Houston won't move?

Things your movers will not move

When you are planning to move, you probably have a pretty good idea of the things you will be taking to your new house. After all, you know all the things you own and what you cannot live without. However there are a number of items that your movers won't move. Ask your moving company in Houston for the whole list of non-transportable items and read on for a few examples.

1. Combustible or hazardous materials

Combustible and hazardous items create a serious fire risk, and professional moving companies want to sidestep any potential for fire. In addition, there are rigid regulations regarding the transport of these materials, and most moving companies utterly do not wish to deal with the hassle.

If you have any of the below listed things which you wish to move, you will have to plan to move them without the movers’ help. Sorry!

  • Aerosol spray cans
  • Cleaners or Bleach
  • Fireworks
  • Gas or Kerosene
  • Matches
  • Nail polish remover
  • Paint
  • Paint thinner
  • Pesticides
  • Propane tanks
  • Fertilizer

2. Perishable food products

Professional moving companies in Houston usually will not transport food products that can spoil, such as dairy, vegetables and fruits, meat, etc. The reasoning is because it's a food safety issue. These things must be kept at a specific temperature to stop them from spoiling and potentially giving people food poisoning. In the event food isn’t kept at the correct temperature over transit, it very well could spoil and be dangerous to eat.

In addition, food items may entice pests. If food is left out in the open, it can attract insects or other rodents that could get into the moving van and invade the remainder of the belongings. It's a lot easier (and of course less messy) to merely leave the perishable food items behind and get new after you arrive to your new house if you can't haul it on your own.

3. Potted plants

When it comes to moving plants, regulations are different from state to state regarding what types of living plants can pass over lines. Once you confirm that your plants are legal to transport, you’ll need to plan on moving them on your own. And remember, plants are usually problematic to move because they need light and water over the route, and so you may wish to think about giving them away before your move.

4. Alcohol and wine

Your moving company will not help you to move that collection of wine or barrelbottle of whiskey you have been preserving for a special occasion. This can be attributed to some consequential risks regarding moving alcohol. Liquor laws vary between states, and various states have limits on the amount of alcohol that can be transported into the state. Also, alcohol is flammable, so if not transported properly, it could be unsafe to all involved. If you own a notably expensive wine collection, search for a wine relocation company to move your collection safely (and legally) for you.

Summary

The majority of professional movers in Houston have very rigid policies on what things they will and won’t move. There are a few items that they just will not move. These things could be dangerous, perishable, or simply illegal to transport. Before organizing your move, you should carefully consider the things your movers will move and what they won't.

Very pleased with the overall respect and care the men gave to my possessions. Even mailing me very quickly the only thing lost in transit. Would recommend to anyone needing a long distant move.
