4 Mistakes Not to Make When Packing for Your Office Move to Houston

Office Moving - Office RelocationPacking up your office sounds like a simple undertaking, right? Especially if you're somewhat orderly worker, it seems like all you would be required to do is place your documents in one box, your computer and peripherals in another, load up your desk, and you’re off and running. Sadly, getting your office from here to there is many times a lot more labor intensive than we tend to think it is. Luckily, sidestepping these common blunders when it's time to box up your office can save you a decent amount of anxiety when moving to Houston.

Mistake #1: A Lack of Organization

No matter if you are doing a do-it-yourself move or have found a moving company to help, the worst thing you can do when it is time to move is to go into it without being adequately prepared. You may believe you're organized because you scribbled a single item detail on the side of the box, but what you need to do is work out what you need to pack and in what order you need to pack it. Then, you should distinctly label what is is going into which box. Because when you have your boxes loaded up, transported, and to the destination, you're not going to remember which box contains your desk telephone, and which one contains your business files in it. So, write a list on every box of what is in it to avert digging, confusion, and some hysteria while you get set up again.

Mistake #2: Burying Things You Really Need

If you've ever moved your residence, you most likely know that notion of finding the sheets you haven't needed in ten years amid unpacking, but not being able to uncover the shampoo and fresh clothes you must have for tomorrow morning. An office move can have a similar complication. That's the reason that you should pack up the things you are not going to need right away (such as your tax records from six years ago), and be sure they are placed on the truck first. The items you will need quickly (your desk, your computer, your printer, etc.) should all be packed up last so they're the first things you remove from the truck. This method helps minimize your downtime, and assists you to get right back on the job once you get to your new office.

Mistake #3: Not Using a Timeline or a Checklist

Moving an office to Houston is a process that has a tendency to happen incrementally, which is why it's crucial to use the correct tools to track your progress. You should have a timeline written out for how long it will take to box up your things, how long it will consume to move it, the amount of time it will consume to unpack, and then the amount of time it will take to get everything set back up. The timeline needs to have some room in it for problems, and it needs to be supplemented with a checklist so you can mark off tasks as they are done. If you plan to hire a professional moving company, they will assist you with this part. Flying by the seat of your pants is not a very good option for an office move.

Mistake #4: Bringing Stuff You Don't Need to Houston

Moving your office is an occasion to start over, and to put your best foot forward. But, many folks end up just taking everything with them, no matter if they actually need it. That's why, before you even think about packing, you need to sift through everything in your office and contemplate if it needs to come to the new office. That broken hole punch that you already bought a new one and were keeping on hand in case you might get it fixed? Don't muddle up your new office with it. The box of old, but still working, cables you kept in the event of an I.T. issue? Well, if they are some years old, they are most likely outdated. That ream of musty paper that does not fit your printer? Recycle it or hand it to an employee for their kids to scribble on. The more things you can dispose of (including digitizing old records so the paper copies are no longer necessary) the smoother your move will be.
